Mansfield Town vs Harrogate Town: Match Report

After a sustained amount of pressure, Harrogate Town were able to grind out a 1-0 win against Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium. Calvin Miller’s goal in the 27th minute ultimately handed Town their first league win since October 20th.

The Stags kicked the game off underway as they looked to get back to winning ways and it was the amber and blues with the first chance of the evening.

Nicky Maynard looked to have a shot from a distance, but his shot was a long way from being on target as the ball went over the bar.

Harrogate responded with a chance of their own. Calvin Miller fed Dan Jones as the defender’s shot went wide of Mansfield’s goal.

Town continued to find a goal as they looked to go 1-0 up. This time it was George Thomson who released a shot, but it was easily saved by Marek Stech.

In the 15th minute, great build-up play from the Stags saw Kellan Gordon look for a teammate in Harrogate’s penalty area. His low cross was expertly cleared before anyone in amber and blue was able to tuck the ball into the back of the net.

Calvin Miller scored in the 27th minute to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Down the right-flank, Jack Muldoon barged his way through and placed a beautiful ball into the area which Miller tapped in as he wheeled away to celebrate.

The Stags had a chance to equalise just before half-time. Jordan Bowery made a darting run as he looked to take matters into his own hands. The forward drove the ball into the penalty area in search of an amber and blue shirt, but the ball was cleared away

Stech looked to find Maynard with a long punt in the 55th minute. The striker was unable to get onto the end of it as it went straight through to James Belshaw in the Harrogate goal.

Harrogate weren’t too far from making it 2-0. A cross came into the penalty area as Mark Beck looked to head it into the goal. His first header simply did not have enough on it and then the striker looked to chest the ball in, but the ball had no direction and ended up nowhere near the goal.

Mansfield continued to pile on the pressure in the closing stages of the game. Shots from Harry Charsley, Stephen McLaughlin, Ollie Clarke and Andy Cook all ended up off-target.

The newly-promoted side held onto their one-goal lead as they fended off every Stags chance and hoofed it as far as they could.
