Arsenal vs Chelsea: Match Report

Chelsea suffer 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.

A poor performance from Chelsea, who lost to an Arsenal team that didn’t play their star player and club captain Aubameyang.

At the beginning of the first half, the Blues looked the most dangerous. Once again Christian Pulisic had a great first half continuously making dangerous runs into the box.

One of these dangerous runs resulted in a free kick which Mount hit the post with. The closest Chelsea came to scoring in this half.

Arsenal did have good chances before going ahead. They should have scored in the 24th minute after Lacazette was fouled and they had a great advantage. Bellerin took the ball into the box and squared it to Emile Smith Rowe who wasn’t able to reach the pass. The ball fell to Martinelli who wasn’t able to salvage the big chance.

Chelsea gave up a penalty in the 32nd minute. Kieran Tierney was able to go past Reece James and into the box after faking a cross, James fouled him trying to win the ball from behind him.

Lacazette was able to convert the penalty sending Mendy the wrong way.

1-0 to Arsenal.

Arsenal would double their advantage minutes before the end of the first half. Granit Xhaka would score a tremendous free kick about 22 yards out, putting Arsenal up 2-0 with his first goal in the premier league this season.

2-0 to Arsenal.

Lampard brought on Jorginho and Hudson-Odoi for Kovacic and Werner to begin the second half. It was another poor performance from Timo Werner in the premier league. Positive changes from the Chelsea boss.

56 minute Arsenal’s best player of the game Saka extended Arsenal’s lead. He unexpectedly lobbed Mendy from the left of the edge of Chelsea’s box minute. Saka said “course” he meant it but it looked like it may have been a cross. Either way, great goal.

3-0 to Arsenal.

63rd minute Chelsea were lucky Arsenal didn’t make it 4-0. Martinelli played Tierney down Chelsea’s right side and he sprinted towards Chelsea’s box. He was able to cut it back to Martinelli who let the ball run across him and struck it, but the deflection from Zouma made it easy for Mendy.

Hudson-Odoi continued to look good and created a great chance for the Blues in the 79th minute. He took on Tierney and was able to get a great cross on but Abraham headed it over.

Chelsea wasn’t able to limit the number of good chances Arsenal had as they easily could have scored more. Chelsea new signing Mendy made had his pass intercepted by Lacazette in the 82nd minute. Luckily for him, he saved Lacazette’s shot after the mistake.

Arsenal gained a corner from this and had another great chance that ended with Elneny hitting the crossbar.

Hudson-Odoi continued to look good and went on to assist Chelsea’s only goal of the game. He took the ball past Willock and put in great cross to Abraham who used his chest to score. The goal was ruled offside but got overturned to be a goal.

3-1 to Arsenal.

Chelsea had another late chance when a ball from Pulisic was met by Thiago Silva who put his header wide in the 88th minute. A potentially game changing chance that you would expect him to score.

Mount was able to win a penalty in the 89th minute to give the Blues hope to turn around a terrible game, but their vice-captain Jorginho had his penalty saved by Leno.
