Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City with goals from Gundogan, Foden, De Bruyne and a late goal from Hudson-Odoi.
Chelsea saw the return of Ziyech who was in good form before his injury. He was unable to pick up where he left off in this tough game for Chelsea.
Today also marked the 400th appearance for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Early in the first half, the Blues had a good chance from an indirect freekick when Rodri’s pass was picked up by Man City keeper Steffen. Ziyech shot was blocked though.
City would go on to dominate the first half without Chelsea having any really significant moments or chances.
City’s first big chance came in the 15th minute. Cancelo played a great pass to Kevin De Bruyne who had a great chance on his right but his shot across goal went wide. A chance a player of his caliber would be expected to score.
A few minutes later City made it 1-0 through a great goal by Ilkay Gundogan. A great turn on the edge of the area gave him space from Thiago Silva for a good finish.
Chelsea 0-1 City.
Man City’s second goal came shortly after through Phil Foden. A clever pass from De Bruyne through the Azpilicueta’s legs was calmly put away by Foden first time to Mendy’s near post.
Chelsea 0-2 City.
A mistake from Chelsea led to City’s third goal in the 34th minute. A poor clearance from Kante was headed by De Bruyne and put Sterling in behind. Sterling nearly wasted the chance as he was hesitant to shoot and ended up hitting the post. The ball fell to De Bruyne however who took a great touch and calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net despite all the Chelsea players managing to get back in the box.

In the 43rd minute City had another great chance when Foden put in a low cross for Gundogan. The cross is flicked just wide by Gundogan.

53rd minute Mendy made a big save to deny Rodri scoring after a great cross from De Bruyne from a freekick.
Kovacic had a good chance to get a goal back after showing his great ball control to beat City players and get a shot off. He put the attempt wide though. Chelsea looked better in the opening 15 minutes of the second half but still didn’t look too dangerous going forward.
Lampard brought in Hudson-Odoi who looked good when he came on for Hakim Ziyech in the 64th minute.
Chelsea was able to get a goal last minute with one of the final kicks of the game through Callum Hudson-Odoi. A good cross from Havertz was met by Hudson-Odoi to grab the consolation goal.
