Saints walk over Wolves to progress into the next round of the FA Cup
Great chance for Southampton to take the lead in the first five minutes came from Nathan Redmond’s corner. He plays it short to Ward-Prowse who passes it back to him and picks out midfielder Armstrong whose shot slips past the keeper but it collected soon after.
Another chance very soon after sees Ings flick the ball over the defender, very smart, and he attempts the volley by Saiss gets his foot in the way out for a corner.
Southampton were dominating Wolves at this point.
However, Wolves were able to get themselves an opportunity with some smart play in the 28th minute. Youngster Ki Jana Hoever paces down the wing and plays a nice ball to Morgan Gibbs White, who gets pushed over in the box by Bedarek, but no penalty given.
Next chance to take the lead from Saints was from a ball into the box by Bertrand which flies over Ings out to Redmond and he tries the volley but it is straight at keeper Ruddy.
Quick off the mark, saw Bertrand collect a ball out on the left and he plays a low ball into Armstrong who manages to put it wide from not very far out. Should be tucking away these goals.
Danny Ings seals the first goal of the tie with a cracking ball from Bertrand. The run of the striker is spotted by the left back and he is found. Then all he has to do is put it past Ruddy for a great goal.
This goal was checked by VAR of course, and rarely the system said that he was onside in this goal.
Another chance for Southampton came from a through ball by Stuart Armstrong who sees the run of Redmond and he is one on one with the keeper. Redmond takes on the shot and it is saved by the keeper. Brilliant save.
Next chance was actually for the home side here, with a cross in from the left by Neto and it is missed by all the Southampton players out to Traore whose shot gets saved off the line. Great opportunity to equalise here.
Saints double their lead here with some bad play from the Wolves keeper which saw him make a howler here. The ball is nicked from him by Tella and played in to Armstrong who slots home nicely to double their advantage.
Full Time: Wolves 0-2 Southampton
