Premier League: Southampton VS Wolverhampton Wanderers 14/02/21

Wolves stun Southampton to take all three points coming back from a goal down

Some changes to the side that faced Wolves last week:

Takumi Minamino comes back into the side after sitting out in the FA Cup tie.

Jannik Vestergaard gets a spot in the starting XI.

Alex McCarthy comes back between the sticks for Southampton.

First Half

Great chance for Southampton to take an early lead here as Redmond picks out Ings with a ball just behind him but he gets there. Ings holds the ball for a minute till he passes it back to Redmond who takes on the shot, but it is just wide.

Goal from Southampton from Ings. Stuart Armstrong takes the ball off Redmond and sails down the left hand side, whips in a great cross for the English striker to tuck it away with an outstanding volley. Incredible.

Not a lot happened later on in the first half.

Saints went into half time one goal up.

Second Half

PENALTY FOR WOLVES!

Strike from Nelson Semedo, sees it come off Ryan Bertrand’s arm and the referee points to the spot.

It is Ruben Neves who steps up to take it and he does smash it home to equalise for the away side. 1-1.

Opportunity for Southampton to re-take the lead, and this time we see Redmond take a run down the wing for him to cut it all the way back from Armstrong whose shot is wide. Need to take these chances.

Once again another goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they take the lead this time.

Pedro Neto goes on a superb run along the edge of the box and is one on one with Jannik Vestergaard and he skips away from him and slots home at a narrow angle. Fantastic finish.`
