The points get shared in Hampshire between Saints and Chelsea in a 1-1 draw
- Takumi Minamino x1
- Mason Mount x1
In the first five minutes Chelsea were already on the attack for what would not be the last time for sure. Reece James pings a cross to the back post for Alonso who decides a volley would be the best option and he puts it wide.
However within half an hour, Southampton had taken the lead over the visitors. Nathan Redmond plays a brilliant through ball straight between the lines for Minamino and he takes an incredible touch and puts it around Edouard Mendy. The home side now up by one goal.
What a cool finish.
Seven minutes on and Chelsea saw themselves nearly score from a free kick. Marcos Alonso whips in the free kick and Kurt Zouma gets a great head onto it and forces the save from Alex McCarthy for the first time.
50th minute- Marcos Alonso runs down the left wing as he usually does and sees the run of Timo Werner and he takes it to the by line and tries to shoot from a tight angle but never looked like scoring.
PENALTY FOR CHELSEA-52nd minute.
Hudson-Odoi plays the ball into Mount who is in the box waiting and Danny Ings makes a ruthless challenge, and he gets none of the ball. Definite penalty.
And Mason Mount slots it into the bottom corner. No problem.
Southampton with a great opportunity to retake the lead. A ball in from Redmond sees Vestergaard attack it with a great header which comes off the crossbar back into Danny Ings who takes on the shot but puts it wide.
Chelsea on the attack with Mount leading it, he whips in a cross to Reece James at the back post who thinks that a volley would be a good idea but he skies it right over the bar.
