Liverpool vs Chelsea: Match Report

Mason Mount’s first-half goal was enough for Chelsea to defeat the defending champions 1-0 at Anfield.

Chelsea earned a much needed win in their race for the top four. A game that saw them move into the top four whilst Liverpool’s hopes for Champions League football don’t look so good.

In the 16th minute, Chelsea had the first clear-cut opportunity that should have been converted. A ball from Chilwell went over Thiago’s head and found Werner in front of the goal.

Werner tried to chip Allison first-time but the Liverpool keeper caught it comfortably. Despite failing to convert a chance you’d expect your striker to convert, Werner looked good early in the game.

Chelsea thought they scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute but VAR ruled it offside.

Jorginho played a ball over the top of the Liverpool defence. An indecisive Allison was caught out by the pace of Werner who scored into an open net. Luckily for Liverpool, it was ruled offside, a very close decision too.

The Blues were very fortunate to not fall behind soon after. A great ball from Salah found Mane with a clear chance at goal in the box.

However, he missed the ball and Liverpool missed out on a great chance to go ahead.

41st minute Chelsea scored the first goal of the game through Mason Mount. Kante played a great ball in behind to Mason Mount, who had plenty of space on Liverpool’s right with Trent Alexander-Arnold trying to get back.

Fabinho met him but Mount got the ball to his right rather easily buried the ball into the bottom right corner.
