Leeds vs Chelsea: Match Report

Chelsea only take away a point from Elland Road after 0-0 draw with Leeds.

Chelsea’s unbeaten record under Thomas Tuchel continues after their draw with Leeds. A win that would have been big for the Blues’ top-four challenge.

Havertz kept his place in the starting line-up after his great game against Everton. Thomas Tuchel also six changes to the team.

Chelsea had the first big chance of the game in the 7th minute. Christian Pulisic took on Alioski on the left and went past him with ease. He played a pass in the box to Havertz, who is Chelsea’s striker today.

Havertz couldn’t get a strong connection on the ball and it was saved by Illan Meslier.

The Leeds keeper didn’t hang onto the ball long as Leeds hit Chelsea back with a deadly counterattack. They scored from the counter but Bamford was ruled offside for his involvement.

Raphina had played a great ball to Bamford in behind who squared it to Tyler Roberts. Despite the goal not standing it showed how dangerous Leeds will be on the counter today.

Leeds came close to scoring after a long-range effort from Tyler Roberts nearly went over Mendy into the top corner, but the Chelsea keeper got his fingertips onto it and it hit the bar.

The first half ended without any goals from either side. Hard to say who played better in the first half, a very competitive display of football.

First-half: Leeds 0-0 Chelsea

In the 52nd minute, Ziyech played a great cross from Havertz on his left. Havertz couldn’t get a good enough header on the cross though. Good defending from Luke Ayling too

In the 54th minute, Leeds had a great chance, Mendy was moving towards the right in anticipation of Raphina’s shot from inside the box.

The shot was more central than Mendy thought but he managed to just save his shot with his left arm despite moving in the other direction. A Great save.

Tuchel brought on Timo Werner and Reece James to replace Pulisic and Ziyech. Pulisic had a great first half and was Chelsea’s best player on the pitch, but in the second half, he didn’t see quite as much involvement.

Callum Hudson-Odoi also came on late into the game for Mason Mount in an attempt to collect all three points.

Hudson-Odoi would have Chelsea’s last chance of the game in the 86th minute. He got himself into a great position just inside the box, managing to move the ball to his right and get a shot off.

The shot was disappointing though and straight at the keeper.

Full-time: Leeds United 0-0 Chelsea

Man of the Match: Edouard Mendy

Chelsea have a massive game against Atletico Madrid in the champions league final next. The Blues go into the second leg with a one-goal advantage but miss their player of the season so far in Mason Mount who is suspended.
