Chelsea vs Real Madrid: Match Report

Chelsea advance to the finals of the Champions League

Chelsea defeated Real Madrid 2-0 at Stamford Bridge thanks to a goal from Timo Werner and Mason Mount. The score on aggregate was 3-1.

The Blues advance to the finals where they meet Manchester City in an all-English team finals.

Chelsea came close to going ahead in the 17th minute through Timo Werner. The German international thought he put his side 1-0 ahead with a tap in but the goal was rightly ruled offside.

Real Madrid would have the next big chance of the game in the 26th minute through Karim Benzema. His shot from the edge of the box was met by a great save from Edouard Mendy who dived to keep the shot out.

Timo Werner made up for being offside earlier in the game with the first goal of the game. Kante found Havertz in the box with space, and he chipped the former Chelsea keeper, Courtois.

His chip hit the crossbar, and Werner was ready for the ball to drop. He headed it into the open goal and made it 1-0.

Chelsea continued to be the better team early in the first half. A great cross from Azpilicueta found Kai Havertz in the box, and his header hit the crossbar.

Unlucky from Havertz to not score what was a great attempt.

In the 53rd minute, Mason Mount came close to making it 2-0 after some great link-up play with Timo Werner.

He found himself in space in the Madrid box, but his shot went over the bar. A chance you would usually expect a player of his quality to convert.

Courtois made a great save to deny Havertz making it 2-0 in the 59th minute. Poor defending from Madrid who allowed Havertz to be one-on-one with the keeper after one ball over the top.

65th minute Chelsea had another one-on-one chance, this time N’Golo Kante was the one with the shot this time. Another big save from Courtois denied him of a big goal.

Chelsea ended a dominant performance with another goal this time coming from one of their players of the season Mason Mount.

Pulisic picked out Mount who had an easy finish to seal the deal.
