Mansfield Town Football Club nicknamed the Stags due to the stag in their badge were formed in 1897 as Mansfield Wesleyans.

The highest level they have reached is the Second Division back in the 1977/78 season.

Relegated to non-league football in 2008, chairman John Radford saved them and in the 2012/13 season saw themselves promoted back into the Football League.

In the 2018/19 season, the Stags were close to reaching League One, but a Play-Off semi-final defeat to Newport County saw those hopes dashed.

In the last season, they have struggled as they finished 21st in League Two.

They currently sit 22nd in the league and have appointed Nigel Clough as the new manager of the club after they sacked Graham Coughlan from the role.
