INTRODUCTION…

A club with 114 years of history, the only proper club to hold a 100% winning record against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

We’ve had some great days in the clubs history, beating Man United 1-0 courtesy of a Freddy Eastwood free-kick, Winning promotion at Wembley on penalties after equalizing in the dying seconds of extra time, not forgetting back-to-back promotions from League 2 to the Championship. All of those fairly recent memories, but those days seem a lifetime ago right now.

Roots Hall, once a fortress is now a guaranteed 3 points for the opposition. We’ve plummeted to be the worst football league side in existence – arguably ever! Our days in court are more frequent than goals and the fanbase has had enough with long-term chairman Ron Martin.

On the brink of existence and already looking confined to non-league football for the first time in 114 years Southend are on a depressing downward spiral. With an embargo hanging over the club, the next court date looming, the new stadium (we were due to move in in 2008) still not making progress – I’d question if there’s a harder team to support in this current climate!

Manager, Mark Molesley is coming off double promotions with Weymouth and it’s probably fair to say he underestimated the size of the task here. I hope he’s given more time, but in a results business, his time is running short already.

Squad wise – most of them will never play league football ever again. They’re nowhere near good enough, even Klopp couldn’t get this lot to win games. This might all sound terribly negative, but unfortunately, it’s the reality of us Shrimpers. For now, I’m just glad not to be the next Bury!
